A brave pensioner has had a new nose grown from his forehead after losing his original one to skin cancer. Tony Murray, 79, allowed the entire procedure to be filmed for Virgin Media’s fly-on-the-wall documentary Inside James’s. The Dubliner had a mark on his nose for nine months which was later diagnosed as a basal cell carcinoma.

If AllView Healthcare (previously DermView) wasn’t available, I could be waiting for six months even though I have private health insurance. It could be up to five years for a public appointment.

Late diagnosis, much greater invasive surgery
There are many different types of skin cancer and thankfully, most of them are not life-threatening and can be treated and cured with relatively small procedures. Even the most dangerous type, Malignant Melanoma, is curable if it’s detected in its early stages. However, if a late diagnosis occurs, this may result in a life-threatening situation with a need for invasive surgery and intensive treatment.
