DermView envisions the digital future of dermatology
In talks to raise €2m, Irish medtech DermView is on a mission to revolutionise dermatology treatment, beginning with expansion in the UK and Ireland. Not many people out there realise it, but skin issues make up almost 20pc of a typical GP’s workload. And with only 57 dermatologists in the country, according to DermView co-founder Eoin O’Reilly, it is not surprising that the Irish waiting list to see dermatologists currently stands at 46,500 people.

A brave pensioner has had a new nose grown from his forehead
A brave pensioner has had a new nose grown from his forehead after losing his original one to skin cancer. Tony Murray, 79, allowed the entire procedure to be filmed for Virgin Media’s fly-on-the-wall documentary Inside James’s. The Dubliner had a mark on his nose for nine months which was later diagnosed as a basal cell carcinoma.

Decline in cancer referrals during Covid-19 leaves patients at greater risk
Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, new concerns are growing regarding the sharp decline of skin cancer checks. Reports indicate that people are failing to present to their doctors with cancer concerns and worries, with some GP’s not seeing a suspected cancer case in weeks.
